What is teaching? How does it feel to have your feet in the classroom? The pandemic has shaken up that practice. But distance sometimes makes you look better. Which stories from the past school year stay with us? Maybe because it shows courage. Because they are funny, moving, or connecting. Because they inspire or make you laugh. Or simply because they are beautiful. What stories testify to teaching as it is? We portrayed 4 stories by Mieke, Ron, Liesbeth and Wouter in which teaching is viewed from a completely different perspective than that of measurability.
The event has come to an end, the winners have been announced. We were delighted to enjoy inspiring stories that highlighted the beauty of teaching. We would like to pay special tribute to two entries. We deliver a postcard package to Sarah and Simon's schools.
We will keep the story that most appealed to our imagination for a while. After all, the completion of the school year currently requires a lot of attention and energy from everyone who has kept it going for a whole year. So we will keep you in suspense for a while and will announce the winning story as part of the teacher's day on October 5, 2021. The unmasked teacher and his or her school will be surprised with a portrait and a visit to the exhibition as promised. 'The teacher tells'.
Do you also know a special story of a (future) teacher, colleague, ...?
From nursery, primary, secondary, higher, ordinary or special, ... education?
Big or small?
Eccentric or inconspicuous?
Share it with us and surprise your colleague with your own portrait or an inspiring package of postcards.

How does the selection go?
Jilca van Tienen and Els Van Waes, employees of the Art of Teaching expertise center of UCLL Research & Expertise and the driving force behind the project 'What teachers tell – in words and images', nominate three stories that, in combination with the chosen quote, are the most appeal to the imagination.
One story is translated by Jilca and Els using the method of a/r/tography and drawn up as a 'visual narrative', like the stories of Mieke, Ron, Liesbeth and Wouter. The narrator of the story and the main characters receive this as a work of art. The story will also be featured in the project's expo and on this site, accompanied by an audio file.
The other two stories receive a package of postcards with the 5 portraits from this site at the address of the narrator's school, in the last week of June. Ideal as a promotional gift, thank you to the team, to send to your favorite teacher or to hang on the wall.
